Conservative treatment for a missing tooth
Case Study Details
This patient presented to the office several years ago and has comprehensive orthodontics completed by Dr. John Digiovanni. She was congenitally missing a later incisor and had what is referred to as a pegged later on the opposite side. Orthodontics was utilized to create space to place for lateral incisor in the area where the tooth was missing. Orthodontics also created an ideal space for prepless veneers on the pegged lateral. After orthodontics impressions were taken without touching her existing dentition. Our lab technician came to the office and took a custom shade of her adjacent teeth to get a perfect match. We then fabricated a Maryland bridge which is a winged bridge that is bonded to the adjacent teeth without any modification of existing tooth structure. Additionally we fabricated a prepless “window” veneer which allows her underlying tooth shade shine through the porcelain. When the patient is fully grown we will place a dental implant in the space of the missing tooth. This treatment is the ideal treatment for this young lady.
